What
I decide to sculpt comes from a variety of places. Things that are happening
in my life become the basis for most of my work. Things that I see or
find can also trigger my thoughts and can eventually end up as new pieces.
Most of my ideas incubate in my mind for months ... sometimes even years.
While they are being mulled over in my mind, I start collecting things
that will eventually help them become reality.
Inspiration
is dedicated to the process I go through in creating a new piece. She
represents not only the thinking process, but also the other half of
the creative equation for me. Once I have an idea, I always ask if it
is good and worthy from a higher source. It is because of that divine
connection my pieces become powerfully emotional and are truly able
to touch people in meaningful ways. This part is the most important
part of the process to me.
To
express this process, I chose to dress Inspiration in white, silver,
and crystal. If I could have dressed her in pure light, that would have
been closer to the actual feeling I have as I sculpt a new piece. White,
silver, and crystal had to suffice this time. Her face and body language
are peaceful, yet if you notice ... there are still a lot of diagonals
going on which denote movement. That is pretty much how I feel when
I sculpt a new piece. I try very hard to only have positive feelings
combined with positive actions while I sculpt. I surround myself with
good music and uplifting thoughts.
Somehow,
this positive energy seems to flow through my pieces to the new owners.
That is why people feel very good around my work. That is what gives
them healing energy. I suppose. I have received far too many independent
reports from collectors to doubt that something good seems to transfer
in my work. Each new piece goes out with a prayer. I pray that the healing
power will continue to work.
Inspiration
has a combination of many found items that I have collected over the
years. There are lots of tiny things on her garland that have taken
a long time to collect. My favorite part is the tiny wires that stick
up toward heaven. The metal pieces on her back that look like wings
I found many years ago and saved for just the right piece someday. They
seemed perfect for this piece. When I connect to the Lord, it feels
like my body is being fed energy from all over. It is an active feeling,
and the metal pieces give that feeling of action.
When
I found the base I was very pleased. It was perfect for the feeling
I wanted. The bubbles inside the glass not only give interest ... but
they again give the feeling of movement and growth. The metal bottom
is also full of diagonals. They keep the eye moving around the piece.
It is difficult to make a non-moving piece look like it has life. Things
that keep the eye interested and moving help make a piece seem like
it moves even though it really doesn't.
I
hope Inspiration will touch you and help you yearn for a connection
to something divine and
inspirational. If each of us spent more time in quiet, meditative prayer,
this world would be a much kinder and more loving place.
