This piece was sculpted together. That makes it more difficult to do because it is hard not to touch one figure while you are working on the other one. It is also technically difficult to get into the areas where the figures are close to each other.
The inspiration for this piece was an advertisement I saw in a magazine. It reminded me of all the times I had held my own children. That started me thinking about all they had taught me over the years. That became my focus for doing the piece. I helped raise 8 children ... four of my own and four of John's.
I learned over the years that children help us learn, and in so doing they become our teachers. They constantly make us rethink what we believe. They almost force us to gain wisdom to keep up with their questions. They start teaching us the day they are born, and since we remain parents thereafter ... the learning continues for the rest of our lives.
